About the Program

Spartan Recovery Program (SRP)

The University of North Carolina at Greensboro Spartan Recovery Program (SRP) is a program of Student Health Services Counseling Center that is available, free of charge, to UNCG students in all phases of recovery from addiction to alcohol and/or other drugs. Established in 2014, the program has expanded to include The E.P.I.C. Lounge, a dedicated space that provides students an area for study, leisure, fellowship and entertainment with a massage chair, laptops, coffee and snack station, video gaming and widescreen TV’s. The E.P.I.C. Lounge also hosts twice weekly Care & Share recovery groups using SMART Recovery, 12 step and other effective tools to strengthen recovery and enrich members’ daily lives and relationships. SRP is working towards both on and off campus SRP designated housing while some members currently live in nearby Oxford Houses. The SRP Coordinator and part time graduate assistant offer peer and academic support, recovery coaching, plan monthly celebrations of recovery and coordinate participation in recovery oriented conferences and events, and make referrals for additional support, as needed, to the LCAS therapist in the Counseling Center. UNCG proudly offers a full continuum of care. SRP is a midsized community maintaining between 15-25 students in abstinence-based recovery. SRP members complete an application, wellness plan, and commitment to abstinence found on the website, shs.uncg.edu/srp. SRP staff and students are also active participants in the strong recovery community in Greensboro and enjoy supportive alliance with partners on and off campus. Our ally student organization, The Spartan Recovery Alliance (SRA) offers support to an extended community of students impacted by substance use. The SRP logo “Recovery: It’s E.P.I.C!” stands for Empowerment, Purpose, Inclusion and Community. Potential members are encouraged to contact our Recovery Community Coordinator at recovery.uncg.edu, to discover what our amazing program has to offer!
