About the Program

COLLEGIATE RECOVERY CENTER

The University of Oregon Collegiate Recovery Center (UO CRC) was founded in 2012 and is part of the University Counseling and Testing Center (UCTC) within the Division of Student Life. The UO CRC recognizes and supports all major programs of abstinence-based recovery (12-step, SMART, Y12SR, etc). The UO CRC has its very own dedicated space on the east side of campus that can be utilized by members 24/7. There are several staff members including a Director, Post-Doctoral Assistant, Undergraduate Intern and Undergraduate Assistant. The UO CRC is a small program as described by the ARHE (1-14 active members). Main student programming at the UO CRC includes a weekly seminar, 12-step meetings, recovery support and individual academic advising. Other programing consists of sober tailgates, retreats, student activities, service projects, attending conferences and collaborating with the CRPs of other regional and national Universities. The primary requirement for membership is an application process verifying three months of continuous recovery and a commitment contract to actively maintain one’s recovery while at the University. Members are also required to attend a weekly seminar or a weekly check-in if unable to attend the seminar. Any student interested in the UO CRC is able to take part in most programming and utilize the space during drop-in hours.

The Association of Recovery in Higher Education (ARHE) is the only association exclusively representing collegiate recovery programs (CRPs) and collegiate recovery communities (CRCs), the faculty and staff who support them, and the students who represent them. ARHE provides the education, resources, and community connection needed to help change the trajectory of recovering student’s lives. We are a network of professionals, administrators, faculty, staff, students, parents and policy makers.

A Collegiate Recovery Program (CRP) is a college or university-provided program that includes a supportive environment within the campus culture. CRPs reinforce the decision to engage in a lifestyle of recovery from addiction/substance use disorder. It is designed to provide an educational opportunity alongside recovery supports to ensure that students do not have to sacrifice one for the other.

The ARHE Website is currently undergoing updates. While we anticipate minimal disruption, please email mack@collegiaterecovery.org if you experience any issues with the website and we apologize for any inconvenience.
