About the Program

The Iowa State University Collegiate Recovery Community (CRC) is a program established in 2020 and coordinated by the Student Wellness Office, part of the Student Health and Wellness Unit, and within the Division of Student Affairs. We have a dedicated “Be Well Space” reserved for the exclusive use of students in recovery on weekday evenings and for all scheduled CRC meetings and other event functions. Our staff consists of one full-time Health Promotion Coordinator for Collegiate Recovery and two part-time student workers, our CRC Graduate Assistant, and a Collegiate Recovery Ambassador. Our program is considered small but is seeing year-over-year growth in participation, enrollments, and services. The CRC hosts weekly All-Recovery Meetings, offers one-on-one Recovery Coaching, puts on social events, and helps sponsor and provide support for weekly Student Organization Meetings, an entirely student-run organization the CRC is affiliated with. Some of our past social events have included painting nights, movie nights, and outdoor hikes. The only requirements for membership are to be an Iowa State University student interested in pursuing recovery. Newcomers can fully participate in all aspects of the program from the start.

Become a member of arhe!

The Association of Recovery in Higher Education (ARHE) is the only association exclusively representing collegiate recovery programs (CRPs) and collegiate recovery communities (CRCs), the faculty and staff who support them, and the students who represent them. ARHE provides the education, resources, and community connection needed to help change the trajectory of recovering student’s lives. We are a network of professionals, administrators, faculty, staff, students, parents and policy makers.

A Collegiate Recovery Program (CRP) is a college or university-provided program that includes a supportive environment within the campus culture. CRPs reinforce the decision to engage in a lifestyle of recovery from addiction/substance use disorder. It is designed to provide an educational opportunity alongside recovery supports to ensure that students do not have to sacrifice one for the other.

The ARHE Website is currently undergoing updates. While we anticipate minimal disruption, please email mack@collegiaterecovery.org if you experience any issues with the website and we apologize for any inconvenience.
