Emily Newton
Member At Large
Emily Newton, MBA, is a woman in long-term recovery, a proud Rutgers Recovery House alumna, and a nonprofit leader who has spent the last seven years working at the intersection of recovery, funding, and advocacy. She remains actively involved in the Rutgers Recovery House community and credits collegiate recovery with helping shape not only her own recovery, but the work she has chosen to dedicate her career to.
Emily serves as Chief Development Officer at Prevention Links, where she leads the organization’s grants, fundraising, and marketing efforts while helping shape broader organizational strategy. Throughout her seven years with the organization, she has worked across federal, state, local, and private funding streams and now leads strategy around funding diversification and the agency’s long-term growth and sustainability. Her work helps build and sustain programs serving young people, individuals in recovery, and families. Prevention Links is also home to New Jersey’s flagship recovery high school, making the connection between her professional work and her passion for recovery in education especially meaningful.
Her advocacy extends beyond Prevention Links. Emily serves on the Collaborative Hub for Emerging Adult Recovery Research (CHEARR) Board and was an inaugural member of the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention’s Opioid Affected Youth Initiative Youth Advisory Board, where she later served in a leadership role. Across these experiences, she has been especially passionate about ensuring that young people have access to recovery supports, communities, and opportunities that allow them to thrive.
Emily holds both a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and an MBA from Rutgers University. She is excited to serve on the ARHE Board as an opportunity to give back to the collegiate recovery community that gave so much to her and to help ensure more students can find the same sense of belonging, possibility, and support that she found through collegiate recovery.
Outside of work and recovery advocacy, Emily is a proud cat mom of two, a very happy fiancée, and an art lover who will almost always stop what she’s doing for a good sunset.
