Biography of Jarmichael Harris

Jarmichael Harris, MS, LCAS, currently serves as the East Carolina University’s Collegiate Recovery Community Program Coordinator, and as a member of the Alcohol and Other Drug Staff Counselor team for the Center for Counseling and Student Development. Harris is a strong advocate for the expansion of Recovery Support resources for underrepresented populations both regionally and nationally. He currently represents ECU and is now the new president of the Association of Recovery in Higher Education, where he has served on the board in various capacities since 2017. Jarmichael has spent the past decade working in substance use treatment and recovery supports, mostly with adolescents and young adults. Harris graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation Services and a minor in Alcohol and Drug Studies in 2010, later finishing his master’s degree in Substance Use and Clinical Counseling in 2015 at ECU.

In this webinar, Jarmichael discusses how he became involved in the collegiate recovery field, what he is most passionate about within collegiate recovery, and his greatest lesson throughout his career. We also touch on Jarmichael’s hopes for collegiate recovery, his vision as president of ARHE, and some reflection on his achievements.
