As part of their Policy & Practice Improvement Series, the Office of Recovery within the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) released a report based on an in-person dialogue held from July 31-August 1, 2023. Twenty-three (23) professional staff and students convened with federal staff to share both practice experience and lived experience and inform the current state of collegiate recovery.

The purpose of this meeting was to bring national awareness to the role that recovery support and lived experience plays in supporting students who may be experiencing challenges related to mental health and/or substance use conditions; and to use these insights to drive the Office of Recovery’s action plan surrounding recovery support across higher education.” (p. 4)

The report outlines common themes and highlights throughout the discussions as well as several solutions and considerations, followed by a Meeting Report.
