Rachelle Ellis is a Registered Art Therapist and Certified Health and Wellness coach with a demonstrated history of providing direct art therapy services to adults with substance use disorders, as well as adults with serious and persistent mental illnesses who are justice-involved. Ayesha Al-Akhdar has worked as peer support in recovery treatment centers and higher education for five years. In this talk, Rachelle and Ayesha will outline how arts-based programming can be used by folks within the boundaries of different credentials or certification. Several art directives and activities will be included as examples, with instructions and supply lists. Rachelle and Ayesha aim to empower all collegiate recovery professionals to use art in their collegiate recovery programming.
Staff Chats take place on Tuesdays at 12pm ET and explore new topics each week!
This programming was made possible by the Center for Addiction Recovery Support (CARS), a national SAMHSA-funded initiative dedicated to advancing recovery support nationwide. CARS provides training, technical assistance, and innovative resources for individuals, organizations, and institutions supporting recovery.
As a partner organization, the Association of Recovery in Higher Education (ARHE) partners with CARS to expand technical assistance, best practices, and institutional guidance for collegiate recovery programs (CRPs). Together, we are equipping higher education institutions with the tools and expertise needed to build, sustain, and grow recovery-supportive environments on their campuses.
