Monday: Rooted in Support – Our Origins and Foundations
Today’s theme is “Celebrating Our Roots”
Honoring the history and foundation of collegiate recovery programs, recognizing the trailblazers who built them, and celebrating the progress made over the years.
Collegiate Recovery Programs (CRPs) have deep and rich histories, shaped by the dedication of students, staff, and allies who have worked tirelessly to create spaces for recovery on college campuses. This day is about honoring the origins of collegiate recovery, recognizing the trailblazers who laid the foundation, and celebrating the progress made over the years. By understanding our roots, we can appreciate how far we’ve come and continue building a strong future.
Today, we honor the roots of collegiate recovery.
Fifteen years ago, a small group of passionate students, allies, and professionals came together with one goal: to make higher education a safe, supportive, and empowering space for students interested in or seeking recovery. From that seed, the Association of Recovery in Higher Education (ARHE) was born.
On this first day of Collegiate Recovery Week 2025, we celebrate the community-based support that gave rise to CRPs across the country. These programs were built not only by institutions but by brave students and advocates who envisioned campuses where recovery was not a barrier, but a strength.
💜 How to Get Involved Today:
- Attend a kickoff event near you, and/or join us online for our virtual events all week.
- Post a fact about recovery on social media or utilize our social toolkit to raise awareness of collegiate recovery.
- Share your recovery story or thank a mentor using the #CollegiateRecoveryWeek hashtag.
Let’s remember where we started – and why we started.
As part of our kickoff this week, ARHE is excited to launch its 2024 Impact Report. The full report can be found on our home page at https://collegiaterecovery.org/. We invite students, staff, partners, and advocates to read, reflect, and share the findings.
What’s inside the report? Providing an overview of the past year, the impact report includes a letter from the Executive Director; outlines the organization’s mission, vision, values, strategic plan highlights; spotlights leaders and key stakeholders; lists events and key accomplishments throughout the year; provides updates on financial data and membership growth; and recognizes both members and donors.
Why does it matter? For fifteen years, ARHE has been a hub of support, innovation, and community for students in recovery. The Impact Report shows how that support translates into measurable success – both for individuals and for institutions striving to build inclusive, recovery-affirming programs.
Join us for any of our virtual events this week – open to everyone! These are great events to involve your students and come together in celebration of collegiate recovery!
