About the Program

The WVU Collegiate Recovery Program (CRP) supports students in recovery by promoting a healthy, balanced, and meaningful life on campus. The WVU CRP views recovery as an ongoing process of change based on each individual’s unique vision of a fulfilling life. To support this process, the CRP offers a wide range of recovery-supportive programming, including: recovery meetings, mindfulness programming, sober social events, a Start Your Day Right group, arts and crafts, outdoor adventure programs, and a multitude of other health and wellness-oriented programs. WVU CRP also offers Recovery Ally trainings, Naloxone trainings, and other harm reduction services. Students at WVU have their very own “home on campus”, Serenity Place. Serenity Place features a full living room, dining room, fully stocked kitchen, study rooms, and fitness area. All students are welcome to drop in to Serenity Place or participate in programming, including students in or seeking recovery from anything, students looking to improve their relationship to substances or food, body and weight, recovery allies, and students interested in connecting with a safe and supportive community of peers. There is no need to identify as a person in recovery. Everyone is welcome!

The WVU CRP has grown significantly since opening their doors in 2016. The WVU CRP now sees anywhere from 200 to 250 student participants each month during the semester. The program’s Thursday night sober social events have been a noteworthy success, with an average of approximately 20 students attending per week. These sober social events provide an opportunity for students in recovery to connect with their peers at WVU in a fun, recovery-supportive atmosphere. WVU CRP is proud to have celebrated 79 graduates since its beginning!

Become a member of arhe!

The Association of Recovery in Higher Education (ARHE) is the only association exclusively representing collegiate recovery programs (CRPs) and collegiate recovery communities (CRCs), the faculty and staff who support them, and the students who represent them. ARHE provides the education, resources, and community connection needed to help change the trajectory of recovering student’s lives. We are a network of professionals, administrators, faculty, staff, students, parents and policy makers.

A Collegiate Recovery Program (CRP) is a college or university-provided program that includes a supportive environment within the campus culture. CRPs reinforce the decision to engage in a lifestyle of recovery from addiction/substance use disorder. It is designed to provide an educational opportunity alongside recovery supports to ensure that students do not have to sacrifice one for the other.
