Congress is finalizing next year’s federal budget, and funding for the Peer Support Technical Assistance Center (CARS: Center for Addiction Recovery Support) — which sustains ARHE’s national work — is at risk.
- The Senate version of the appropriations bill includes $2 million for SAMHSA’s National Peer Support Technical Assistance Center, which provides critical addiction recovery support to peer networks and recovery communities.
- The House version of the bill cuts this funding entirely.
Without this funding, ARHE will lose the ability to provide technical assistance that builds, strengthens, and sustains collegiate recovery programs nationwide, putting thousands of students in or seeking recovery at risk.
You can help today:
- Call or write to your U.S. Senators and Representatives and urge them to support the Senate language funding $2 million for the Peer Support Technical Assistance Center.
- Ensure that the final appropriations bill retains this funding.
- Share this message with your networks to amplify the call to action!
This investment directly advances the 2025 National Drug Control Strategy by expanding peer recovery supports, strengthening a recovery-ready workforce, and ensuring services reach colleges and high schools.
Every call and email counts. Congress is deciding now. Let’s make sure students in recovery — and the future of recovery-ready campuses — are not left behind.
