About the Program

Mission Statement

At Redefine Recovery, we are dedicated to fostering a collegiate environment at UAlbany that is inclusive, non-judgmental, and supportive of individuals along the addiction-recovery spectrum. Our mission is to advocate for and create a campus culture that embraces the journey of recovery as a vital part of student life.

We are committed to hosting educational events and training that promote awareness and understanding of addiction and recovery. Through peer-led support groups, we provide a safe space for students to connect, share experiences, and find solidarity in their journey through college.

Central to our mission is the de-stigmatization of addiction, harm-reduction, and recovery. We strive to challenge stereotypes and misconceptions, promoting acceptance and compassion for those struggling with substances, gambling, and other behavioral habits/addictions. We recognize that sustained, long-term recovery is possible for those who want it, but that recovery is not one size fits all. Among our leaders are students who exemplify this journey.

At Redefine Recovery, we advocate for harm reduction practices and emphasize the importance of creating a safer campus environment for all students. We resist and reject university policies and practices that stigmatize addiction, harm-reduction, and recovery, instead embracing diverse perspectives and approaches to wellness.

Together, we redefine recovery as a journey of hope, resilience, and empowerment, and we are committed to supporting every student on their path towards learning, healing, and fulfillment.

Become a member of arhe!

The Association of Recovery in Higher Education (ARHE) is the only association exclusively representing collegiate recovery programs (CRPs) and collegiate recovery communities (CRCs), the faculty and staff who support them, and the students who represent them. ARHE provides the education, resources, and community connection needed to help change the trajectory of recovering student’s lives. We are a network of professionals, administrators, faculty, staff, students, parents and policy makers.

A Collegiate Recovery Program (CRP) is a college or university-provided program that includes a supportive environment within the campus culture. CRPs reinforce the decision to engage in a lifestyle of recovery from addiction/substance use disorder. It is designed to provide an educational opportunity alongside recovery supports to ensure that students do not have to sacrifice one for the other.

The ARHE website is under construction as we launch a new membership portal. Please inform mack@collegiaterecovery.org if you experience technical difficulties or need support.
