About the Program

Auraria Recovery Community (ARC) is the first tri-institutional recovery program of its kind, serving the University of Colorado Denver, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and Community College of Denver, all located on the Auraria Campus in downtown Denver. ARC began in 2018 as a small group of students and staff eating pizza and discussing goals, hopes, and the need for a community for people in recovery. We, now, sit under the administrative oversight of the Health Center at Auraria and are considered a small-sized collegiate recovery program. We offer a variety of free and accessible services, including weekly All Recovery Meetings, semesterly campus events, connection to campus and community resources and collaboration across campus.

Our overarching goal is to provide peer support to students who are interested in building community and connecting to those also exploring or navigating recovery. We define recovery as broadly as possible. We do not have any formal requirements for joining ARC events beyond being interested or curious about recovery. We value all pathways to recovery, honor a harm reduction model and welcome all people of all lifestyles to our community.

The Association of Recovery in Higher Education (ARHE) is the only association exclusively representing collegiate recovery programs (CRPs) and collegiate recovery communities (CRCs), the faculty and staff who support them, and the students who represent them. ARHE provides the education, resources, and community connection needed to help change the trajectory of recovering student’s lives. We are a network of professionals, administrators, faculty, staff, students, parents and policy makers.

COLLEGIATE RECOVERY PROGRAM

A Collegiate Recovery Program (CRP) is a college or university-provided program that includes a supportive environment within the campus culture. CRPs reinforce the decision to engage in a lifestyle of recovery from addiction/substance use disorder. It is designed to provide an educational opportunity alongside recovery supports to ensure that students do not have to sacrifice one for the other.
