About the Program

CState Recovery Community (CSRC) is a unique collegiate recovery program founded using harm reduction principles. Students can feel comfortable with our team meeting them where they are, in whatever stage of change, regardless of treatment or recovery goals. We hope our community enhances a sense of belonging on campus for students needing support, struggling with mental health, problem behaviors, or substance misuse not supported by other campus resources. CSRC is directly connected to the Counseling Center and has partnered with related academic programs, such as Addiction Studies, Human & Social Services, and Social & Behavioral Sciences. The program will approach all types of recovery in a broad, holistic, and compassionate sense, addressing the needs of as many students as possible. The community is aiming to be mid-sized, with about 15-45 students. Data from our first year will allow us to update to be a small, mid-sized, or large program.

Students can attend weekly meetings providing support with the ability to schedule individually with a clinician, peer supporter, or community resource specialist. Students are encouraged to use the lounge to connect, complete homework, and relax between responsibilities. Groups and activities will be facilitated by volunteers, counseling center clinicians, peer support, or faculty and staff managers in the provided lounge. Students will be directly connected to counseling upon request while utilizing the community.  CSRC services are managed and coordinated by a practicing provider who educates future entry-level providers at CState in the Addiction Studies and Human and Social Service Program. Students can connect with a CState Ohio Certified Peer Support Specialist/Community Resource Specialist and the peer supporter’s supervisor who manages the Counseling Center. The services provided will include connection to needed school & community resources, group peer support, psychoeducation, prevention activities & outreach, individual peer support, and direct connection to the CState Counseling Center.  Check out our webpage to learn more!

Participants must agree and sign the Participant Handbook to ensure compliance with the Student Code of Conduct, on-campus rules, policies, and regulations. This allows students to be connected to all necessary resources and accessibility services and helps hold students accountable to the mission and goals of the community. This handbook includes our recovery community’s Bill of Rights. ALL ARE WELCOME, COME AS YOU ARE!

Become a member of arhe!

The Association of Recovery in Higher Education (ARHE) is the only association exclusively representing collegiate recovery programs (CRPs) and collegiate recovery communities (CRCs), the faculty and staff who support them, and the students who represent them. ARHE provides the education, resources, and community connection needed to help change the trajectory of recovering student’s lives. We are a network of professionals, administrators, faculty, staff, students, parents and policy makers.

A Collegiate Recovery Program (CRP) is a college or university-provided program that includes a supportive environment within the campus culture. CRPs reinforce the decision to engage in a lifestyle of recovery from addiction/substance use disorder. It is designed to provide an educational opportunity alongside recovery supports to ensure that students do not have to sacrifice one for the other.
