The Bruce E. Donovan ’59 Dean of Chemical Dependency was created in 1977 and is housed in the Dean of the College Office. Shannon O’Neill, Assistant Dean of the College for Junior/Senior Studies and Chemical Dependency, is currently serving in this role. Dean O’Neill hosts Early Sobriety at Brown (ESOB), a small group of students committed to abstinence, who meet weekly to provide peer, academic and social support. Interested students should contact Dean O’Neill (firstname.lastname@example.org) to see if they are a good fit for the group. There are also a number of 12-step groups that host meetings on campus or a few blocks from campus, that are attended by students. Brown provides designated substance-free housing for those who request it.
