CWU Recovery Outreach Community
The Recovery Outreach Community at Central Washington University is a collaborative effort between the Wellness Center and the Student Medical and Counseling Clinic. A Wellness themed living community with a recovery component, Haven House, is in early stages of development with a hopeful opening in fall 2018. The ROC is coordinated by an AOD Health Educator and a faculty member with the assistance of a part time student health education intern. Entering its 3rd year, there is a small participation group defining the scope and programmatic functions of the program. Annual programs supported through the ROC include the Recovery Month BBQ, regular showings of Anonymous People with discussion panels, and nearly monthly late night programs on Friday and Saturday nights throughout the academic year. Support services are specified to each student’s needs. The collaboration between the Medical and Counseling Clinic and the Wellness Center provide many avenues of support for students in recovery. Membership in the CWU ROC only requires being currently enrolled as a student. New students to the ROC are invited to participate as little or as much as they choose. Leadership opportunities are available through the student organization and through city-wide collaborative efforts.
