The Saint Joseph’s University (SJU) Collegiate Recovery Community is housed within the Division of Student Life and has a dedicated group space used for meetings and social support. One staff member, who works in the Wellness, Alcohol & Drug Education (WADE) Program, serves as the advisor of The Flock: Allies of Recovery which is a student-run group. Currently, SJU has a small but mighty group of students in recovery who participate in their programming. This group plans awareness events for the campus and social and supportive events for their group. The WADE Program also has a student worker position to support the advisor in the planning and implementing of the educational activities for this group. SJU has 3 weekly 12-step meetings on campus one of which has grown to be a well-known meeting in the area with roughly 100 young people each week! They also have free and confidential counseling through the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) as well as check-in meetings with their advisor as needed. Saint Joseph’s University is in the midst of developing housing for students in recovery so stay tuned!
