About the Program
Vanderbilt Recovery Support (VRS), Vanderbilt University’s Collegiate Recovery Program, was founded in 2007. VRS is a part of the Office of Wellness Programs & Alcohol Education which falls under the Dean of Students office. The VRS offers a student lounge within a residence hall. We additionally have three meeting spaces, one within a residence hall, one in the Medical Center and a third in the campus chapel. Vanderbilt Recovery Housing began in 2014 and can currently hold up to four students. Students interested in applying must have a minimum of six months of sobriety, be actively working a recovery program, and agree to all the Recovery Housing requirements. We have one full-time Program Coordinator, one graduate assistant and one VRS graduate student facilitator. Our CRP is mid-sized 25-30 students attending the weekly meetings and 15-20 students actively participating in social and service events. We have two Recovery Meetings on Vanderbilt’s campus. We offer both social and service events as well as mentoring. VRS is affiliated with the programming provided by the Office of Wellness Programs & Alcohol Education. This allows for thousands of students to be exposed to the Vanderbilt Recovery Support, Collegiate Recovery Program. All students can attend meetings and programming if they are sober. We are currently creating a tiered membership level that we will introduce when our new, larger, VRS Lounge becomes available. Newcomers can attend either of the two Recovery Meetings on campus and also attend social and service events as long as they are sober.
